US-141 Big Rig Accident

An Iron County man was injured in a tractor-trailer accident on US-141 Monday morning.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened just after 8 am Central time near the Net River in Hematite Township.

A Gunville Trucking semi had been heading north when the driver, 44-year-old Anthony Zarcone of Caspian, lost control on the icy road.

The truck crossed the center line and spun around, leaving the road while traveling backwards.

Police say the cab jackknifed violently into the empty trailer before coming to a stop.

Zarcone was found unconscious after the crash.

He was taken to Northstar Health System in Iron River with non-life-threatening injuries.

There’s no word on his condition.

Police say high speed and the icy conditions both played a large role in the accident.

Zarcone had not been drinking and was wearing a seatbelt.

Northstar EMS assisted at the scene.
