Auditions open for "Legally Blonde: The Musical"

If you have a bit of an acting bug, you may want to take part in an upcoming theatre production of “Legally Blonde” at Northern Michigan University.  The project is open to students and to community members.

The original film – starring Reese Witherspoon – won’t be duplicated exactly, but turning the movie into a musical will involve a wide range of talents.   In the 2001 film based on the Amanda Brown novel of the same name, Elle Woods gets dumped by her boyfriend but tries to win him back by enrolling in law school at Harvard. She defends an exercise queen in a murder trial and shows that fashion, being yourself and setting goals just never go out of style.

Auditions are underway Friday, November 16, 5 – 8 p.m.  Dance auditions will take place Saturday, November 17, at 10 a.m. Callbacks are set for Sunday, November 18.  All auditions and callbacks are at the James Panowski Black Box Theatre at N.M.U.

Hopefuls need to prepare a one-minute performance piece to be considered for a role.

And, by the way, the role of Elle’s Chihuahua “Bruiser” is already filled, but there is another canine acting opportunity available.

The production will take place April 17–20 at the Forest Roberts Theatre.  While there is a website to sign up for an audition  (http://www1.mysignup.com/cgi–bin/view.cgi?datafile=legallyblonde)   advanced signup is not at all mandatory and anyone interested in auditioning can show up during the audition event.
