State launches website for Veterans

LANSING – Attorney General Bill Schuette today offered a special Veterans Day message in advance of Sunday’s holiday.  In addition to thanking veterans for their service, Schuette also announced the launch of a new section of the Attorney General’s website dedicated to assisting veterans in collecting benefits they have earned through their military service.

“Veterans Day is a time for every American to thank our veterans for the freedoms we hold so dear,” said Schuette.  “It is thanks to the sacrifice and bravery of our men and women in uniform that we have those freedoms.  For that reason, service members are afforded special legal protections.”

Schuette noted Michigan veterans and their loved ones can now go to www.michigan.gov/vetresources  and learn about important benefits afforded to current and former service members.  The web page identifies legal benefits and explains how veterans can exercise their rights.  Military agencies and nonprofit organizations who offer legal assistance are also highlighted.

State of Michigan offices, including the Attorney General’s office, will be closed on Monday November 12, 2012 in observance of Veterans Day.
