Inexperience leads to ATV crash
An Illinois man was taken to the hospital Saturday after crashing an ATV in Iron County.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Department says it happened at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Iron County Recreation Trail #16, near Wagner Lake in Bates Township.
Deputies say a 29 year old man from Palatine, Illinois had driven off the marked trail while operating a 2012 Honda Outlander 400 ATV. The machine continued into a heavily wooded ravine and came to rest against a stand of trees. The driver was wearing a helmet, but still sustained numerous non- life threatening injuries.
He was transported from the scene to North Star Hospital in Iron River. Police say it was determined that the man’s inexperience was a contributing factor in the crash.
Assisting Iron County deputies at the scene were paramedics for North Star Health Systems.
