Non-Partisan Coalition Offers Voting Hotline
LANSING – Volunteers from the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law have established a hotline aimed at helping Michigan residents vote by answering voter questions during the primary election next Tuesday, August 7th. The Election Protection Hotline, (866) OUR-VOTE, is a non-partisan operation that will answer questions related to understanding ID requirements, finding polling locations, reporting voting problems, getting absentee ballot information, offering registration help and more.
“We will do whatever we can to encourage eligible voters to make their voices heard at the ballot box next Tuesday,” said Melanie McElroy of Common Cause Michigan. “Voting is a fundamental right for all Michigan citizens, and this non-partisan Hotline’s goal is to help answer questions.”
The group says there is confusion with voters and election officials over the U.S. citizen checkbox requirement following Governor Snyder’s veto. Michigan voters do not have to fill it out, but should still be given a ballot. If voters have questions about this or other voting requirements, they can call the hotline for answers.
The Hotline, (866) OUR-VOTE will be active effective during polling hours, from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. for the primary election on August 7th.
