McClellan Ave. Extension
A road construction project that many Marquette residents have wanted for decades is running ahead of schedule.
McClellan Avenue is being extended from its current endpoint at Fair Avenue to Wright Street.
With the warm temperatures and lack of rain this summer, the work is about two weeks ahead of schedule.
The project should decrease truck traffic on residential streets.
Marquette City Director of Planning and Economic Development Dennis Stachewicz says it should be completed in late August or early September.
He says there are still a few pieces of work remaining, like a cross-street connection, painting of lane lines and installation of traffic lights.
Then the work has to be inspected before the extension can open to traffic.
The extension costs just under $2.2 million.
The city is paying just over $1 million, and state grants are covering the remainder of the cost.
