Local Business Celebrates 40 years
Forty years is a long time for any locally owned, independent business to be operating with the same owners. But two businesses in Ishpeming are celebrating their 40th anniversary this week.
Morrison’s Gift Shop and Morrison’s Drug Store are both entering their fifth decade under their current owners. Ed Morrison sold the gift shop and the drug store to Charlie and Susan Dix in July 1972. They’ve owned the businesses ever since. Both businesses are observing the 40th anniversary now through Saturday. The gift shop has extended hours, a 40 percent discount store–wide, and some things to give away. A photo wall in the gift shop includes what the drug store originally looked like, long before it moved to the new Bell Hospital. It shows a visit from precious moments creator Sam Butcher in 1994.
