High Schoolers Tour American Eagle
Local high schoolers saw an example today of the idea that they don’t have to leave the U.P. to enjoy a lucrative and interesting career.
Students from North Star Academy in Marquette visited the American Eagle maintenance base at Sawyer International Airport.
The students are part of Jobs for America’s Graduates, a national school–to–work program for high schoolers.
American Eagle Marquette base and contract maintenance Steve Rogers says he’s constantly looking for new mechanics, many of whom end up getting hired there after going through NMU’s aviation technology program.
American Eagle has 250 employees at Sawyer, about 180 of whom are aviation mechanics.
Sawyer serves as one of only two heavy and overnight maintenance bases for American Eagle’s entire fleet.
The other one is in Abilene, Texas.
