Benishek responds to VA healthcare exemption

WASHINGTON, DC: Dr. Dan Benishek (MI-01) today issued the following statement after the Office of Management and Budget’s announcement that VA health care is exempt from budget cuts:

“This is a step in the right direction in ensuring that Northern Michigan’s veterans receive the health care they deserve. While our country faces serious financial challenges, I do not believe we should balance the budget on the backs of our veterans.

I am a proud sponsor of the Protect VA Healthcare Act of 2012 (H.R. 3895), key legislation that will take this decision a step further. America’s veterans are a brave group and it is well past time that we protect the benefits that they have earned and deserve.”

H.R. 3895 is currently before the House Committee on the Budget.
