NMU Faculty Union Ratifies Contract
Late this afternoon, Northern Michigan University announced that the university and its 22-member Faculty Association union have reached a tentative agreement on a two-year contract.
The membership – representing faculty who teach in a wide range of programs from the certificate to graduate level – voted 14 to 5 to accept the proposed contract. The union’s current three-year contract expired August 26, 2011.
In the new agreement, which goes through June 2013, there are no salary increases. The new NMUFA agreement includes increased employee contributions to the healthcare program. The university established a one-time employee health reimbursement account to assist with the increased employee share. The retirement program was also restructured.
The agreement will be brought to the NMU Board of Trustees at its May 3-4 meetings.
