Severe Weather Awareness Week
Governor Rick Snyder has declared this week as “Severe Weather Awareness” week in the state.
The week was timed perfectly. Strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy rain and snow have made for a blustery week across upper michigan. Despite the unpleasant conditions, the rain was needed.
In Upper Michigan, there were 75 reports of severe weather in 2011. There were 15 tornadoes that touched down across the state in 2011, which is very close to the yearly average of 16. Four of those touched down in Upper Michigan.
