State Police Drug Recognition Expert
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post will be getting some help in detecting drug-impaired drivers from one of their own.
The rise in prescription drug abuse has led one officer to take an extra step to keep those drivers off the road.
Trooper Kevin Rajala has recently returned from a Drug Recognition Expert course.
He says the course trains law enforcement officers to identify the signs, symptoms and effects of drug use among drivers.
Trooper Rajala becomes one of only three officers with this training in the Upper Peninsula and one of only 30 in the state of Michigan.
