Escanaba River Brook Trout Grant
The Marquette chapter of a national conservation group has received a grant to restore and improve the Escanaba River for brook trout.
The Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited has received $25,000 from the Salmon & Trout Foundation of Chicago.
The grant money will pay for a five–year project on the Escanaba River.
There are two goals — identifying areas where natural brook trout spawning occurs and finding areas that may need restoration to promote natural spawning.
The work specifically focuses on the west branch of the river.
