Suspected AWOL Soldiers Arrested
Two soldiers from the U.S. Army were jailed Saturday for a weapons charge.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post, Munising Detachment, arrested the two subjects.
The two were walking through the city of Munising while in possession of weapons. The troopers had received information from law enforcement agencies in another state to be on the look out for these two individuals who were know to have been making threatening statements and carrying weapons.
The soldiers had reportedly formulated a plan to go AWOL and leave the U.S. and head to Canada.
The incident is still under investigation. Further information will become available following arraignment in the 93rd District Court in Alger County. Troopers were assisted by the Munising Police Department and the Negaunee Regional Dispatch Center.
