Benishek Comments on Budget

WASHINGTON, DC:  Congressman Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement following the introduction of the Obama’ Administration’s Fiscal Year 2013 budget:

“After reviewing a summary of the Administration’s budget, I believe this proposal fails to seriously address the urgent threat posed by the federal government’s runaway spending and debt.  I fear his plan will further weaken the economy by imposing a $1.5 trillion tax increase and continuing trillion dollar deficits.  

In the past three years, the Administration has shown they believe we can borrow, spend, and tax our way to economic prosperity.  This plan has not worked.  Instead of developing a new course, the Administration’s budget plan continues edging this country closer to a future of endless ‘euro-style’ deficits.

America’s $15 trillion debt erodes confidence in the economy, tarnishes this nation’s standing in the world, and continues to slow private sector job growth. There is still time to blaze a new path.  In the coming days, the House Majority will offer a budget plan that I believe will include serious spending reforms, provide a blueprint to balance the budget, and grow the economy.”
