More Home Foreclosures in Delta County

There are signs that the U.P’s economy has improved from where it was two or three years ago, but it’s still in very rough shape. Some of those signs are in the form of home foreclosures.

Delta County had 71 Sheriff’s deeds in 2011. That’s down from 90 the year before. But that total of 90 was an all time record.The last four years have all had more foreclosures in delta county than any year on record prior to 2008.

The register of deeds office is expecting foreclosure totals to remain high for at least the first half of this year. Some recent foreclosures have been delayed.

The county had 246 tax liens last year. That was the lowest number since 2007. But, as with foreclosures, that’s more liens than any year in the history of the county prior to 2008.
