MACC looking for Words To Live And Bike By submissions

MARQUETTE — Remember, hope, gratitude, dream, and respect.

These are the five words that will be placed on bike paths across Marquette. The Marquette Public Art Commission has started a Bike Path Mural Project.

This project will ask people around the city to design and paint text–inspired artworks to be displayed on different bikes paths across Marquette.

“This is a project to bring hope to our community,” said Tiina Morin, City of Marquette Arts and Culture Manager. “To allow a community art project where people can paint and work on a project social distance. Maybe lift as we go into the fall, lift our spirits and feel hopeful for.”

Morins says they really wanted people to express themselves with their designs and while this is a temporary project, if it is well received, they will do it more in the future.

“We just really want people to get creative. You know, what do you hope for? What do you remember? What are you grateful for? And it’s up to you to what that design is inside those words. That’s up to the artist themselves, “Morin said.

The deadline to apply for this is by 5 pm on September 1st, with the winners being chosen on September 10th, and painting will occur between September 14th –25th.
