New parking lot construction begins at Sugarloaf Mountain Natural Area

MARQUETTE — Construction of a new parking lot has begun at Marquette County’s Sugarloaf Mountain Natural Area.

The new parking lot is located south of the existing lot. During the first phase of construction, the new South Lot will be developed.

In August, the second phase of the project will involve lane closures along County Road 550. The third phase will include improvements to the existing North Lot. The project is estimated to be completed by mid-September.

The County Road 550 recreation corridor is experiencing a large volume of visitor and truck traffic. All visitors and motorists are asked to be alert and safe while traveling through the work zone.
