UPAWS to host summer Empty the Shelters adoption event sponsored by Bissell Pet Foundation

GWINN — UPAWS is hosting an Empty the Shelters Summer Adoption Event, during which certain animals will be available for reduced or no cost.

From July 10th through July 12th, all dogs will be available to adopt for $25, and all cats and small animals 6 months or older will be free.

The adoptions are sponsored by Bissell Pet Foundation, who is working to help shelters across the country during the busy summer season. With the stress and uncertainty many are experiencing due to the ongoing pandemic, now could be the perfect time to adopt a pet.

“Bissell Pet Foundation is helping shelters again,” said UPAWS Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator Ann Brownell. “They’ve been phenomenal with helping animal shelters, especially during COVID when the help is desperately needed. The more animals that we can get into homes the better! And animals are very comforting and, especially right now, people are stressed and worried. Having an animal to keep your mind off of your worries of what’s going on in the world is very, very helpful. And they provide unconditional love, and we all could use that nowadays.”

Adoptions are currently by appointment only, and appointments can be scheduled online. You can schedule an appointment with UPAWS here.
