Loggers B & G helps give back to the community during COVID-19
TIPLER, WI — The COVID–19 outbreak has left many people in tough situations when it comes to food, but one Wisconsin restaurant is doing their best to change that.
“I have a freezer full of food and it’s just the right thing to do,” said Dennis Lemerande, Owner of Loggers Bar and Grill. “ I’m going to make this food and give it away until its gone.”
Loggers Bar and Grill, located in Tipler, Wisconsin, has teamed up with multiple Michigan and Wisconsin businesses to form “Northwoods Strong.” This group hands out free meals on Monday and Friday to people who come by Loggers B & G during the coronavirus pandemic. WIKB 99.1 FM radio, located in Iron River, was the first business to join.
“You realize there are people out there who is hurting,” said Adam Stender, radio host at WIKB. “People that are going through a tough time and need a couple meals. They need a little positivity in their life. They need a little something that gets them through and keeps the positivity and hope alive.”
Over 600 free meals have already been given out since Northwoods Strong started on March 30th. Loggers wish to see that number increase with the help of community.
T-Shirts are available to purchase for $20. All the proceeds go to putting this event on each week.
“Feel free to donate; that’s the only way that this keeps going,” said Stender. “If we don’t get food donations, if we don’t get money, we can’t just pull it directly out our pockets. The only way that this works is with sponsors,” he said.
After multiple hours of volunteering during this difficult time, the goal of helping the community has been achieved in some resident’s eyes.
“It makes me feel good,” said Jim Waldon, an Iron River Resident. “ They’re helping out the community by giving food out. You just make a donation and you’re good to go.”
“Everybody has been down in their life. Every little bit of help you can get, is a lot of help,” said Lemerande.
