New Marquette County Treasurer takes Oath of Office

MARQUETTE COUNTY — Today at the Probate Courtroom in the Marquette County Courthouse was a special day for one public official.

Nicholas Benson had been chosen to become the new Marquette County Treasurer and took the Oath of Office to take over that position.The Treasurer acts as the custodian of all county funds, and as such is responsible for receipting, recording and investing all money received by the various departments within the County. The position is also in charge of being responsible for the collection of delinquent real property taxes.

Nicholas Benson is quite happy to have received the new position and is looking forward to serving the Marquette County communities.

“It means a lot,” said Nicholas Benson, Marquette County Treasurer. “Like I said I am just really excited to live and work here in Marquette County. It is a great place and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”

The office of County Treasurer was established by the Michigan State Constitution. The Treasurer is an elected official and serves a 4-year term.
