No injuries in West Branch Township plane crash

MARQUETTE COUNTY — Troopers from the Michigan State Police responded to a report of a plane crash approximately five miles east of KI Sawyer Airport.

The plane was reported to have crashed near a field, and the crash site was located on Co. Rd. 545 near Falstedt Rd.

The two occupants of the plane, a 48-year-old male and his 8-year-old son, were located outside of the plane uninjured. The pilot said he lost engine power while in flight and had to make an emergency landing in a field, but overshot the field he was aiming for, and landing on Co. Rd. 545 before veering off the road and crashing into some trees.

The aircraft was towed from the scene to a hanger on KI Sawyer for an inspection to be done by the FAA. MSP was assisted on the scene by Forsyth Township PD, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department, Skandia/West Branch Township Fire & EMS, and Gene’s Towing.
