Animal Medical Center – Marquette is officially Fear Free certified
MARQUETTE — The Animal Medical Center of Marquette is now Fear Free Certified as of this week. The facility works to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them.
This idea was created and developed by Dr. Marty Becker who is the founder of Fear Free. The goal is to “take the pet out of petrified” and to look at mental and emotional health as well as physical health.
“We believe it is just as important to have good health emotionally for your pets as it is physically healthy,” said Dr. Kellie Holmstrom, Owner and Veterinarian at Animal Medical Center-Marquette. “So typically when you think about coming to a vet clinic you think about dogs and cats have physical problems such as diarrhea or vomiting and that’s why you would bring them in. But with Fear Free the clinic has spent time doing special education seminars for the entire staff. Looking at what we can do to make and enrich your pet’s life. Both when they come to visit the clinic and when they go back and live at your house.”
The medical center takes many different approaches to decreasing anxiety and fear in their patients. These can include treats, soft music, and even in and outdoor spaces for animals to roam and become comfortable.
