Eagle Mine updates local communities

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP — The Eagle Mine held its biannual company forum Wednesday evening to give Marquette County residents an update on the status of the mine.

The forum at the Humboldt Township Hall is the first out of the four opportunities in the month of June. The forum focused on a variety of topics, from mine safety to the progress concerning the Eagle East project, which has extended the life of the mine to 2023.

“It’s really exciting to work for Eagle Mine, and I think there’s a lot of pride within our workforce to work for a company that is able to mine and do it responsibly, protect the environment, and do it safely,” said  Social Responsibility Advisor, Meagen Morrison. “A lot of us that work here – over 80 percent – are Yoopers, so we want to be sure that the mine is protecting our home.”

There are 3 more forums in the area for the month of June:

  • Thursday, June 7, from 12-1 p.m. at the Michigamme Township Hall
  • Monday, June 11, from 12-1 p.m. at the Eagle Mine Information Center in Marquette
  • Wednesday, June 13, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Thunder Bay Inn in Big Bay
