Additional work for Ishpeming water improvement project approved
ISHPEMING — A special meeting of the Ishpeming City Council was scheduled for Friday morning to approve additional work for the USDA water improvement project.
The council approved about $47,000 worth of additional work. The work will be paid for by the USDA project’s contingency fund.
An estimated $7,500 will be dedicated to repairing the sidewalk on Superior Street.
“The existing conditions are deteriorated, there are tripping hazards on the sidewalk, pavement that’s crumbling. The problem is that there’s not enough money to everything perfectly everywhere, so it’s a question of ‘What, when and where?’ and I think they made a good decision today,” said Ishpeming City Manager Mark Slown.
The rest of the funds approved at Friday’s meeting will go towards replacing the other half of White, Beech and Hemlock streets. The first half of these streets are already being replaced as part of the water improvement project.
Even with the additional work, construction is still slated to be complete by October 2018.
