Tau Kappa Epsilon chapter holds ‘tub push’ to raise money for Beacon House, others
MARQUETTE — Over this last weekend, one local fraternity helped raise awareness and funds for the Beacon House in Marquette.
NMU’s Tau Kappa Epsilon held their annual Tub Push event, and in just over 30 hours, pushed a tub on wheels all the way from Sault Ste. Marie back to Marquette. It’s a trip around 165 miles long, and has to be broken up into three different shifts with members switching off in order to traverse all the way across the UP.
The annual event held since the 1980’s raises money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and local organizations, and this year, funds will be donated to the Beacon House.
“It’s quite a journey,” said TKE member Christopher Chezik. “We made a great tub this year. The guys put together a real good tub, it rolled real well. Driving down the road, it gets sketchy at times, but we always have a car in front and behind to protect and give us a little buffer – and most cars up here give us enough room.”
“I’ve learned a lot,” said local TKE chapter President, Michael Kolbus. “It means so much to be able to partner with these businesses, get on their good side, make good friends, good businesses partners, and getting that outreach for our community.”
The fraternity’s fundraising goal is set at $5,000, and to donate, you can click here.
