MARQUETTE — Meijer added another name to UP 200 sponsorship when it donates a check for $6,500 to the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association. Meijer has long been a key member of the community.

“Part of our philosophy as a company is to support the communities that we serve,” said John Spaulding, the Marquette Meijer store director. “And we’ve partnered with the UP 200 right away to begin those partnerships and support the communities, so we’re very excited about it.

The Grand Rapids–based retailer is scheduled to open by the end of the summer, and staffers can’t wait to work with the city of Marquette.

“We don’t create partnerships as a flash in the pan; we will definitely create this partnership and others to serve the communities,” said Spaulding.

The Third supercenter in the U.P. will cover 195,000 square feet and will include a larger gas station and convenience store.
