ISHPEMING — The 5th annual IshpeTurkey Trot was held on Thanksgiving Day. Runners, walkers and trotters showed up to burn a few calories with a 5K or 10K race on the Iron Ore Heritage Trail before sitting down for their Thanksgiving Feasts.

The race was originally created to give families an opportunity to start a new Thanksgiving tradition, but it also gives back to the community.

“Everybody deserves a meal and so, we give all of our proceeds back to Feeding America. An event like this really helps us feed about 300 families or about 1,200 individuals, so it’s a big day for us,” said Tyler Gauthier, one of the race’s organizers.

Although the weather was cold and the trail had a fresh layer of snow on top, hundreds of people still participated.

The race is organized by Gauthier Insurance. If you’re interested in participating in next year’s race, keep an eye on the IshpeTurkey Trot Facebook page or website.
