U.P. Labor unions hold rally
MARQUETTE — The U.P. Regional Labor Federation and the Michigan Laborers construction union held a rally today at the United Trades Building in relation to the upcoming special election in the 109th district state representative race.
Although she was not in attendance, the groups announced their intentions to back Sara Cambensy in the race. Jonathan Byrd, legislative director of the Michigan Laborers’ District Council, says unions are a very important part of the American workforce.
“I gotta say, in the Upper Peninsula, labor is still very, very strong and has always had a strong presence up here. There’s a really deep labor history here in the Marquette area and I can tell you that labor unions are still strong here in the U.P. and will continue to be that way,” said Byrd.
The special election takes place November 7th.
