Mackinac Bridge to close Monday for bridge walk
ST. IGNACE — Monday is Labor Day which means quite a few things will be closed in observance of the holiday, including the Mackinac Bridge. Tens of thousands of people are expected to participate in the Mighty Mac bridge walk this year and in order to ensure their safety, the bridge will be closed to all public traffic from 6:30 am to noon, as recommended by the Michigan State Police and the Department of Homeland Security.
And if you’re traveling Northbound into the U.P. that day, I-75 will be closed from Gaylord to the bridge to limit the number of stranded motorists on the freeway. In addition, the Coast Guard will be enacting a temporary security zone in waters within a quarter mile of the bridge starting at 6 am.
