UPDATE: Assault suspect arrested by police

UPDATE — Wednesday, August 30, 2017 5:25 p.m. ET

An Ishpeming man wanted by police for over a month has been arrested.

David James Bellmer, 39, was taken into custody Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at 502 E. North Street in Ishpeming. Police had been looking for Bellmer since July 31st, when a woman escaped the very residence he was located at Wednesday, saying she had been assaulted by Bellmer.

The Michigan State Police Fugitive Team and the Negaunee Police Department assisted in the arrest. Bellmer was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on a two-count warrant for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.


ISHPEMING — The search continues for a man police say assaulted a woman last month in the City of Ishpeming.

David James Bellmer, 39, is wanted by Ishpeming PD on a felony charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. Bellmer is 5’10”, 165 lbs. with red hair.

On July 31st, police received a call from a woman who said she was assaulted by Bellmer. The woman escaped a residence to call police.
