Upcoming scrapbooking event focused on suicide prevention
NEGAUNEE — An upcoming fundraising event through the Marquette County Suicide Prevention Alliance is focused on allowing survivors to share their experience and remember loved ones who have lost their lives due to suicide.
The scrapbooking event being held at the Great Lakes Recovery Community Room, gives area members the chance to show their support for suicide prevention. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the upcoming Out of the Dark Walk. This walk is devoted to spreading awareness on preventative measures.
According to the CDC, in 2015, more than 44,000 Americans took their own lives. Through this event, health educators are hoping to honor those lost to suicide and allow people who lived through the experience to share their stories.
“This is a kick-off event, prior to the walk that’s happening on September 9th. Those funds are raised for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which goes towards prevention efforts across the nation as well as in our community,” said Health Educator, Emily Pratt.
Anyone is invited to attend the event that is completely free of charge. It’s encouraged to bring photos, poems, or short stories that can be added on your scrapbook page. This scrapbook will be used to promote future walks and suicide prevention efforts in the community.
The event begins on Wednesday at 5:30 P.M., for more information you can click here.
