Local fair recruiting for summer construction jobs
MARQUETTE– One local organization hosted a job fair looking to recruit both experienced workers and those looking to get into the construction field.
The Homebuilder’s Association of the U.P. is holding their construction career fair today from noon until 6:30 p.m. at the Michigan! Works office in Marquette.
The goal of the career fair is to find skilled workers for members of the Homebuilder’s Association.
However organizers did say that even those without skills could come and look for work.
“We’re even looking for those people who don’t have a skill who are looking to learn a skill, said Sarah Schultz, executive officer for the Homebuilder’s Association of the U.P. “We have entry level general labor positions where they’re willing to teach you hands on construction skills.
“A lot of them will hire you for the summer,” Schultz added. “You might be cleaning up the job site or learning what they’re skilled trade is, opening up a window.”
Schultz said that they were looking for everyone from masons to carpenters. She also mentioned that around 150 employers will be looking at those who apply.
