‘Dancing with Our Stars’ kicks off
MARQUETTE – The local Dancing with Our Stars competition kicked off Tuesday night, announcing couple and professional pairs along with their style of dance.
All competitors this year have been former contestants and are back to try and claim the trophy. The judges threw in a surprise giving competitors a chance to pick their routine-White Elephant Style. Dancing with Our Stars added one new Professional Dancer this year since long time pro, Jill Grundstrom, will now sit in the judges’ seat.
“Oh my gosh, I think that they’re going to blow the roof off the theater. They are so excited and all the couples that we have coming back love the event. They are so supportive of hospice, so we’re very very lucky,” Judge Jill Grundstrom said. “I think they’re just excited to have another shot at being on stage, and anything they missed the first time around now they can put it all out there.”
“I like to think that anybody coming back this year has some tricks up their sleeves, because they have all experienced it before. Same with the Pros, so I’m pretty excited,” dance pro Maureen Sullivan said “I have a couple tricks up my sleeves with choreography but we’ll see what happens.”
Styles of dance include Disco, the Lindy Hop, the Foxtrot and more. The competition is for a good cause to help out UP Hospice. Competitors said they are looking forward to fundraising events.
“We have Vegas night, we’re working with Synergy to have an eighties workout event, a Tea Party for the kids, a bar crawl on a bicycle ride, we’re going to have all kinds of great stuff coming up the next three months, and we have great art,” said dancing duo, Mark and Teresa Hamari.
