Local school collects socks for homeless
MARQUETTE — Students at a local school are celebrating their collection of socks and now trying to decide where to donate them.
The Rock the socks annual event is wrapping up at Marquette Alternative High School. Socks of all sizes are collected from around the community for one week and then the students decide which charity to donate them to. This fundraising opportunity is something the seniors enjoy doing each year.
Although socks are something small, they can make a huge difference.
“It’s actually really humbling because it’s something so small that we don’t think of very often but we get to partake in it. It’s something so simple that you don’t think about it and it’s actually a really big thing,” said Senior at Marquette Alternative High School, Lexi Wood.
Schools across Marquette County also participate in this annual event, with drop off locations for the socks being spread out around the schools. Having the seniors be a part of this charitable duty teaches them the importance of giving, especially during the holiday season.
