Loved ones remembered at Lights of Love
ISHPEMING — For many, the holiday season is filled with happiness and joy. For others, this time of the year is for reflection; to remember loved ones who are no longer with us.
In remembrance of those who have passed, Bell Auxiliary hosted the 18th Annual Lights of Love ceremony Thursday night inside UP Health System – Bell. The names of over 200 people were read aloud during the ceremony.
Family members and friends had a chance to hang an ornament on a tree with their loved one’s name on it. The ceremony served as a coping mechanism for those in attendance.
“This is a half an hour that they solely think of their loved ones that have passed. They make it here every year and it’s our joy to have this for them,” said Julie Solka, volunteer coordinator. “Many people have been my friends and their parents are coming to me to get their ornament so that we remember them.”
The Lights of Love Memorial Holiday Tree will stay lit up for the entire holiday season.
