Making shoes for Uganda residents
NEGAUNEE — Having a pair of shoes each and everyday is something that we often take for granted. One company wanted to help with making sure people in less fortunate countries have this necessity.
A charitable event was held last night at the Negaunee Senior Center to help people in the country of Uganda. Young Living Essential Oils created this event to help the people of Uganda have shoes over their feet. In this country, shoes are often not affordable causing people to develop chiggers on their feet.
These chiggers are thought to be a curse and people will be banished from their communities. At this event, pieces of shoes were made out of gently used materials that will then be shipped to Uganda.
“I think it’s a way to join together for a bigger cause than ourselves,” said Gold Level Distributor, Young Living Essential Oils, Michelle Trawick. “And to introduce to our members that Young Living does much more, I mean oils are amazing but this is just a whole other part of Young Living,” said Gold Distributor, Young Living Essential Oils, Leah Karki.
Once these shoes are sent to Uganda with the additional needed materials, they will be completed by Uganda residents. This creates more employment opportunities for the residents as well.
