Upper Peninsula Police win awards for fighting drunk driving
ST. IGNACE- The Michigan State Police, St. Ignace Post won one out of the two awards presented at the annual Mothers Against Drunk Driving Banquet.
According to the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post, the troopers received the award for “Outstanding Law Enforcement Agency,” given to agencies that “demonstrate dedication and commitment to enforcing drunken driving laws and reducing traffic crashes.” Trooper John Janicki, who apprehended 31 OWI offenders in 2015, was 1 of 3 officers to receive the “Recognition of Excellence award.”
In 2015 13 troopers arrested 126 drunk or drug-impaired drivers, an increase of 121 percent from the previous year. Additionally in that year traffic crashes decreased 19 percent.
