MARQUETTE — Homecoming weekend kicked off with a big time parade on Third Street in downtown Marquette.

Lining the streets were hundreds of people. Even workers from shops surrounding the parade route took breaks and watched as an array of Northern Michigan University-related groups passed by.

From dogs, to horses, to the sports teams, to the marching band, and some random, unidentified people in a convoy of Jeeps; the parade route truly had something for everyone. It was followed by a Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the University Center and an alumni reception, too.

Northern Michigan University football plays host to Northwood at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. It’s possible – but not confirmed – that this football game was the reason the parade was put on to begin with.
