Great Lakes Recovery Center preparing for annual run
ISHPEMING — The Great Lakes Recovery Center is holding its 9th annual run for recovery event this Saturday.
Whether you are a walker or a runner, there is still something to participate in. A 5K option is available for the walkers and a 10K for the runners. All proceeds from this event will go to a the Great Lakes Recovery Center foundation, where a plethora of services are offered to assist with mental health.
“People like getting out there and supporting us and supporting our mental health services, the substance abuse services that we offer and all the other services we offer as well. We have one residential center for youth and that’s the only one in the U.P. that will take youth between 12 and 17 for substance use disorder,” said Great Lakes Recovery, Foundation Coordinator Amy Poirier.
A hero’s challenge option is also available for first responders. This is a five dollar discount on the entry fee and the first responder with the best time will get a special trophy. The event will be meeting at a new location this year, at the Great Lakes Recovery Adolescent Services Center, near the Superior Dome.
Registration kicks off at 8 A.M. Saturday morning and the run begins at 9.
