Copper Country seniors enjoy annual picnic

HANCOCK — Seniors in the Copper Country were treated to a day just for them.

It’s a tradition that has been going on for more than twenty years: the Senior Heritage Day Picnic. Now hosted by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the event still provides a special day for local residents 60 and over.

RSVP Program Specialist Christina Mayworm said, “You can just see how many people look forward to this. It’s a way for them to socialize, to learn a little bit more about our community partners. Our vendors here are answering questions and sharing about their programs, what they have to offer.”

Participants enjoyed great food and a wide variety of games while getting information on available services. But what everyone looks forward to the most is simply seeing each other again.

Beverly Jukkala, 77 of Hancock, said, “Just seeing all my friends, keep up with everybody — ones that you haven’t seen for a year. We’ve lost a lot of them but we keep them in our thoughts, so A-Okay! Kukkelikuu!”
