U.P. multi-jurisdictional sex offender sweep
UPPER PENINSULA — Michigan State Police Troopers in Chippewa and Marquette County participated in a multi-jurisdictional sex offender sweep.
Units from the Michigan State Police and law enforcement throughout these counties joined together to ensure that registered sex offenders are in compliance with the Michigan Sex Offenders Registration Act requirements. More than 100 homes were checked in Chippewa County, 86 of these were in compliance with the regulations, the other offenders were not home at the time.
Three warrants were sought for offenders who moved without notifying law enforcement. Over 130 homes were swept in Marquette County, 111 of these were in compliance of the regulations and eight warrants were sought for offenders who also didn’t notify law enforcement that they moved.
The Michigan Sex Offenders Registration Act requires sex offenders to regularly report to their area law enforcement agency.
