Poor weather couldn't stop fairgoers

MARQUETTE– Rain or shine, a popular family event is in full effect through Sunday.

For the twenty–sixth year, the Marquette County Fair is taking place. With carnival rides, go kart races, live animals, and lots of food, there are many activities for kids, adults, and anyone else who stops by. Live music will be happening during the fair along with an auction tomorrow night.

“It’s an opportunity for our local people to come out and see what our community offers,” said Marquette County Fair Board Member Linda Talsma, “I think it’s a wonderful experience for the whole family, from the grandparents showing their little kids what the fair’s all about, going down seeing the animals, seeing some horse shows possibly. It’s a great time, just come on out.”

There are many exhibits at the fair, and one exhibit this year is Adopt A Dog. Lauren Bahrman, A U.P. native and member of the Heartland Greyhound Adoption is at the fair educating people about greyhound dogs and the benefits of owning one.

“I thought it would be unique and different to as growing up in the U.P.” she said, “I didn’t, you know, I’ve never seen a greyhound up close. I never exactly knew what they were about, so after educating myself, I decided it would be really unique to come up.”

The county fair started Thursday and runs through Sunday afternoon.
