U.S. Coast Guard assists several kayakers to safety
MUNISING — Members of the U.S. Coast Guard were busy earlier this week helping to keep Lake Superior safe.
On Wednesday afternoon, Coast Guard officials say numerous kayakers were on their way to the Pictured Rocks when they had to abandon their kayaks due to increasing winds and lake conditions.
Crews arrived on scene to help search and to make sure no one was missing.
Coast Guard watchstanders then received word of a small overturned vessel with one person on board. The boater – who had abandoned ship – was found in the area attempting to swim ashore.
They helped him aboard and righted his boat, taking both safely to shore.
