Children meet local heroes and check out their rides
ISHPEMING — Some local kids got an up close look at some of their heroes today.
It was Meet Your Local Heroes Day at the Al Quaal Recreation Area. Kids had the opportunity to meet with local police officers, firefighters and more. They even had a chance to go inside their vehicles and look around.
Organizers say the goal of the day was to give kids the opportunity to meet someone they always wanted to. “I hope that kids get to meet someone that that excites them, firefighter, policeman, someone that they have always wanted to see or meet and get to see inside their vehicle, it’s like an up close to me your local community hero or helper,” said Heather Lander, Children’s Librarian for Ishpeming Library.
“It’s very nice to meet all our hero’s because they risk ours lives everyday for us,” said McKenzie, on of the kids attending.
Meet Your Local Heroes Day was a part of the Ishpeming Library Summer Reading Program. Many of the kids said they were most excited for a trip inside the trucks of their heroes.
