Former museum director pleads guilty to embezzlement
MARQUETTE — The former director of the Marquette Maritime Museum will repay over $30,000 in restitution for embezzling funds from two different sources.
Thirty-seven year old Carrie Fries pleaded guilty Friday morning in Marquette County Circuit Court to one count of embezzlement- $1,000 or more but less than $20,000.
She originally faced two of those charges and three counts of forgery.
Fries was arrested by the Marquette City Police Department in April after they received an embezzlement complaint from the museum and the McClintock Recognition Project.
She will be sentenced on July 29th.
