Part of business route to get fresh curbing
ISHPEMING — Construction continues on the roundabouts in Ishpeming, but part of a another nearby road will soon be getting some attention.
The Ishpeming City Council awarded the job of replacing the curbs and gutters along a portion of Lakeshore Drive to Arrow Constructors at their meeting on Thursday morning. The project is being funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation, since that section of Lakeshore is part of the nearly five mile M–28 business route that runs through Ishpeming and Negaunee.
It’s expected to cost just under $124,000.
“There’s about 3,500 feet of curb [that] will be replaced, and they’re not going to rebuild the whole road. It’s just the curb,” said City Manager Mark Slown. “[It’s] more construction in the City of Ishpeming going on this summer. People will be glad when the summer is over, but they’ll get better roads because of it.”
The city plans to get moving on the project as soon as possible. They will also be looking at steps to prevent future damage to the curb in that area by plow trucks.
