U.P. native running for state seat
QUINNESEC — A Dickinson County man who ran for Congress two years ago is running for office once again, but this time at the state level.
Alan Arcand is running for the 108th district seat currently occupied by Ed McBroom. Arcand is a U.P. native.
He lives in Iron Mountain with his wife, Nancy and their three boys. Arcand has been a republican delegate at the state and national level.
He’s running for office because Arcand believes that people in Delta, Dickinson and Menominee Counties need good representation in Lansing.
“We need people to standup and fight for our rights in the State of Michigan and in our county, we need someone who will represent us well in Lansing,” said Arcand. “We have a lot of things going on down there that take all of our tax dollars, but up here we struggle. Everything seems to go down there, so we need somebody down there to fight real hard to get stuff to come back up here.”
On the top of Arcand’s list of things he believes in is the second amendment.
“We have four bills in the (state) house for constitutional carry in Michigan,” said Arcand. “I would really like to see that passed in Michigan. I really don’t feel that we should ask the government for permission for a right that’s already guaranteed to us in the constitution.”
Arcand served in the United States Air Force as an Aviation Maintenance Technician. He currently owns and runs an auto repair shop in Iron Mountain.
