Man gets prison time for domestic violence charge

HOUGHTON — A Hancock man is headed to prison for felony domestic violence.

Forty-one-year old Jeremy Looper was sentenced in Houghton County Circuit Court to two to seven and a half years in prison. Looper had pled “no contest” to the charge as part of a plea agreement. The original charges of first degree home invasion and assault with a deadly weapon were dismissed.

The charges stem from an incident in June when police say Looper attacked a Lake Linden woman with a knife at her apartment. Because of his past criminal record, Looper received a tougher sentence.

He was credited for 107 days time served.
