MARQUETTE — ABC 10 wants to remind you to “Shop Local, Shop Small.”

Black Friday may be a day to hit the big box stores for all the great sales, but tomorrow is a day to shop at your favorite small, local businesses.

Small Business Saturday is also upon us, and the Marquette Downtown Development Authority urges the community to support the local businesses who support our community.

Executive Director for the Marquette DDA Mona Lang says, “It’s so important for us to support our local businesses, to buy local. Our local businesses support our community and support many of our charities throughout the year.”

It could be hard to imagine what your money supports when shopping at the big box stores, but when shopping at a small business, it’s safe to say that you are supporting local families. Not only that, but you also get those goods and services that are unique to the “906.”

“We want to make sure that we keep them successful,” Lang added, “keep them vital and support them. So save some of your Christmas shopping money to buy those unique gifts that you can only find in downtown Marquette.”

So don’t forget to stop by your favorite local shops in Marquette and across the UP tomorrow. Most of them are holding special sales and promotions for their shoppers.

It’s sure to be a fun day of shopping and local unity.
